Cal Skate Hockey
By far, roller hockey is one of the fastest growing (and moving!) sports on the planet. Identical to its twin ice hockey in almost every way except for the skates, lack of most physical contact, and playing surface, roller hockey is a fun sport for every age. Cal Skate is proud to host youth and adult roller hockey leagues open to boys and girls, men and women of every age and ability.
The youth divisions are divided by age. The defining ages are decided by the amount of sign-ups. Each team is coached by trained and qualified adults, practicing one night a week and playing on the other, usually Mondays and Thursdays. The youngest divisions, the squirts (ages 5 and up), start the afternoons off after school around 4:30pm, then working up the age groups to high school-age players finishing by 8:30pm. Included in the 12 week season are playoffs and a championship game, with everyones eyes on the coveted Andrew Cup. The youth leagues are played at Cal Skate, but are run and maintained by NVHSC. Their website is www.nvhsc.org.
The adult divisions include a 'B' and a 'C' league. The 'C' league is an exciting level we just added- it is for the true beginner hockey player looking for a low-key, fun way to learn how to play- a perfect first step for the interested adult player. The 'B' league includes players who might have a little experience playing or good skaters looking for a different kind of skating experience. The 'B' league is designed for the intermediate roller hockey player, or those out to just have a good time and a good work-out without all the pressure of a more competitive league.
Both youth and adult leagues have seasons in the fall and spring school semesters. Both start in September and end in December for the Fall league, and both start in February and end in May for the Spring. Durng the summer, we have a combined league of evenly matched teams, playing for the fun of it, inside air-conditioned Cal Skate.
For more information on the Adult leagues, please call us at (530) 343-1601,

Artistic Skating
Cal Skate Chico has one of the most accomplished artistic skating clubs in the country. Competing in events and tournaments on a state and national level for more than 20 years, our trophy case is modestly full.
Over the years, Cal Skate Chico has been home to many national champions, including the present United States Singles champions for Sophomore Ladies Singles, Amelia Becker, and Masters Solo Dance, Donna Orcutt-Price, as well as Masters Team Dance, Mark Hubble and Donna Orcutt-Price.
Artistic Skating Club
The Club has members ranging from 4 years to 74 years old, male and female alike. Most are on traditional quad skates, others prefer the newer Triax inline artistic skate. Skaters compete in events ranging from skating figures to the exciting freestyle dance division, where jumps and loops are performed identical to those moves seen by ice skaters in the Winter Olympics.
The Chico Artistic Skate Club also has five nationally recognized, USARS certified coaches- Donna Price, Miranda McAfee, Becky Cunningham, Jaclyn Burris, and the Club founder and president, Jody Harrah. These coaches are involved in teaching the students during public and private lessons, readying them for upcoming meets and tournaments throughout the country. The Club is an organization emphasized on competition, but some members are involved purely for the recreational and personal benefits.
If you have any questions, please call Cal Skate at (530) 343-1601 or SEND US AN EMAIL. -

The original, and true, Chico womens roller derby squad, the Nor Cal Roller Girls, practice and bout right here inside Cal Skate. Since 2005 derby names like Motown, Slap Jack, Flicka Flame, Miss B Havin', A-Train, Slappa, and so many more have been heard echoing through Cal Skates rafters. Now new names take the floor to continue the tradition of bringing high-end, top-notch roller derby to the Northstate. Each bout brings a different team from the Western United States, so you're sure to see something new and different each time.
With halftime entertainment, a refreshing beer garden for those over 21, Round Table pizza stocked in the snack bar, and the climate-controlled safe confines of Cal Skate, spectators of all ages will find each bout memorable and exciting.
Dedicated volunteers help coach, referee, and officiate these bouts to make sure each one is legitimate, fun, and safe for skaters and spectators. Cal Skate at FunLand is also home to the up and coming roller derby stars - the youth of the Nor Cal Junior Roller Girls. These unique girls practice Friday afternoons at Cal Skate and can be found bouting at many Derby half times.

Nor Cal Roller Girls
Strong women on little wheels
At the rink with the Nor Cal Roller GirlsThey gather to practice on Thursday nights at Cal Skate, down by the freeway on Carmichael Avenue in Chico, a couple dozen women who range in age from late teens to mid 40s, with skate names like Crunch Ya Numbaz, Diva Smackin’ Tire, Sister Mary Hate, One Hit Wonder and Ringo Death Starr.
Some are married, some single. Some are moms, some aren’t. Some are professional women, some are students, and some are looking for work, but all of them love this sport, love the physicality of it, the release of tension and frustration that builds up at work or at home, all of it played out on the flat track.
This isn’t the banked-track roller derby of a few decades back, when the appeal was a lot like professional wrestling, with hordes of Jerry Springer-style fans turning out to see women knock each other’s teeth out with their elbows and knees. There’s a thriving flat-track roller-derby subculture out there, with its own language, postures and attitudes, but this ain’t your grandma’s version of the sport. Read the Full Article

With this variety of pitches, we should have a spot for everyone from the Little Leagues to the Major Leagues. Throw in a stereo system playing today's hit music and plenty of lights to brighten those cooler summer nights, and you've got the perfect place to hone your batting skills. The Dugout also provides free use of our bats and helmets, but feel free to bring your own.
Because The Dugout is located outside, for safety reasons it can not be operated when it is too wet, too windy or too cold.

Our Spring 2013 Hours:
Putters at Funland is Northern California's premiere miniature golf course. Opened in the Spring of 2003, this 18-hole course offers a fun yet challenging mix of holes circumventing through and across running streams and fountains, up and over hills, under and around rocks, in a naturally well-vegetated environment, complete with a waterfall. Whether playing for fun or competing for first place, golfers of all ages will enjoy the cool and relaxing environment. If you decide to keep score, par for the course is 45.
To break par you might need a hole-in-one, which is possible on a few holes. When finished, the winner can buy the rest of the group a round of ICEE's or scoops of ice cream from FunLand's newest addition, Sierra Scoops Ice Cream Shoppe, located inside the Putters clubhouse. Inside the air-conditioned clubhouse, you will also find a lot of today's top video games, ticket dispensing games, air hockey tables and a ticket redemption counter full of toys and candy you can buy with your tickets.
Putters miniature golf and batting birthday parties are becoming a hot item. Parties can be held outside on our umbrella covered patio or inside in our climate controlled, festively decorated party room. Businesses and other organizations are also encouraged to bring their group down for private functions, meetings, or just group fun.
Putters, the miniature golf course and batting range, are open the following hours. Please call ahead if you are unsure if we are open during poor weather, but we do try to open regardless.
